A
Brief History of NALA
Assisted
living facilities began in Nebraska many years ago. Early on, assisted
living facilities were licensed as domicilary or residential care
facilities. In 1997, the Nebraska Assisted Living Act was passed
by the state legislature. This Act combined the two licensure categories
into one and was called assisted living.
The Nebraska Health Care Association has represented assisted living
as part of the long term care continuum for many years. In September
of 1997, the Nebraska Assisted Living Association met for the first
time. It was created as an affiliate of the Nebraska Health Care
Association for the purpose of representing the assisted living
provider. The affiliate functions with its own Board of Administrators,
Standing Committees, and Membership Categories.
The objectives of the Association are to:
-
Maintain high standards of assisted living services.
- Secure
and merit public and official recognition of the work of assisted
living providers.
- Adopt
and promote programs of education, legislation, and public policy
which support quality efforts of assisted living providers.
-
Advocate for quality assisted living services for the Nebraska
consumer.
