Directed Health Measures
Your safety and well-being are NHCA’s top priority. The event will follow Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department directed health measures (DHMs) in place at the time the event is held.
Content
This program is a must for all health care professionals who provide services to residents with dementia. There is a continuing need for caregivers who are trained to provide appropriate, competent, and sensitive direct care to residents who have dementia. Following successful completion of this program, participants are one step closer to receiving their Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) certification.
Objectives
At the completion of the program, participants will be able to:
- Explain what dementia is and how to adapt approaches and communication techniques to successfully care for a person with dementia.
- Identify common causes of aggressive, repetitive, and sundowning behaviors and learn how to problem solve as an interdisciplinary team.
- Describe therapeutic and meaningful activity interventions and practice hands-on facilitator techniques.
Audience
This program is appropriate for direct care staff, nurses, social service directors, activity directors, administrators, directors, and managers in nursing facilities and assisted living communities.

Format
Registrants will attend in-person. Lunch will be on your own.
Continuing Education Credit
This education program meets the continuing competency requirements of 8.5 hours for the renewal/reinstatement of a Nebraska Nursing Home Administrator’s license as granted by the Nebraska Board of Nursing Home Administrators. This program is appropriate for the educational requirement for assisted living administrators. This program meets the criteria of an approved continuing education program of 8.5 hours for nurses. This program meets the criteria of an approved continuing education program for social work. This program is appropriate for continuing education for activity coordinators. This program may be utilized to fulfill the federal requirements of continuing education for nursing assistants. Participants must attend both days and stay in the education program the entire time in order to obtain credit.
