Balancing COVID-19 safety and the relaxation of restrictions on visitation, communal dining, and group activities is vital to providing for the well-being of residents in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities. Social isolation has been a significant concern throughout the pandemic. This session will discuss effective transitions for skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities to safely return to a “new normal.” Identifying when a resident can receive visitors, facilitating returning to communal dining and small group activities, and returning to a “new normal” will be discussed along with how this transition may affect residents.

Objectives

  2. Determine how to facilitate communal dining and small group activities

Infection prevention and control practices have served a pivotal role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. With infection prevention and control at the forefront, expectations for skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities have been greatly impacted. This session will review current infection control and prevention practices and where infection control and prevention may be headed. Improvements to infection control and prevention programs will be discussed. This webinar will also describe techniques for implementing changes to infection control and prevention standards of care.
