Scholarships

The Nebraska Health Care Foundation (NHCF) supports those continuing their education in long-term care by awarding a variety of scholarships each year. Funds for nursing scholarships are made available through Health Care Information Systems and The Vetter Foundation, in conjunction with NHCF. Dietary scholarship funds are made available through Sysco Lincoln, in partnership with NHCF. Congressional Briefing scholarship funds are made available through The Olson Group and Quality First Insurance, LLC, in partnership with NHCF.

Quarterly Medication Aide Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted
NHCF offers two (2) Medication Aide scholarships per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a medication aide in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. Second quarter scholarship applications are due by May 31, 2020.

Quarterly Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted
NHCF offers one (1) Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarship per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a basic nursing assistant in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. Second quarter scholarship applications are due by May 31, 2020. 

AHCA/NCAL Annual Convention Scholarship

Nebraska Health Care Foundation will award one (1) scholarship to a long-term care professional interested in attending the AHCA/NCAL Annual Convention Oct. 4-7, 2020 in Austin, TX. At present, the event is moving forward as planned.

While we remain hopeful this year’s Convention & Expo will convene as planned, the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the weeks and months ahead is still evolving.

Annual Scholarships Awarded for 2020

The Annual Scholarships for 2020 have been awarded and the recipients notified. Plans are to recognize the scholarship recipients at a later date. Members will be notified when the 2021 application period opens later this year.

You are encouraged to apply for one or several of the following scholarships:

  • Two (2) Quality Summit Scholarships are offered to individuals wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Quality Summit held in March each year.  
  • Four (4) Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Scholarships are offered to individuals wishing to attend one of two Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Training workshops offered by the Nebraska Nursing Facility Association/Nebraska Assisted Living Association.
  • Four (4) NAHCA Conference Scholarships are offered to health care assistants who wish to attend the National Association of Health Care Assistants Annual Conference.
  • Four (4) $1,000 RN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become registered nurses and practice in the long-term care profession.
  • Four (4) $750 LPN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become licensed practical nurses and practice in the long-term care profession.
  • Four (4) $500 Dietary Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become involved in food service or dietary practice in the long-term health care profession.
  • Three (3) $500 Nurse Advancement Scholarships are offered to licensed RNs and/or LPNs who would like to complete training/certification testing to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in the long-term care profession.
  • Two Congressional Briefing Scholarships are offered to direct care staff individuals wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing each June in Washington, D.C.
  • One Congressional Briefing Scholarship is offered to NNFA/NALA Board members wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing, June 1-2, 2020, in Washington, D.C.
  • Four (4) $250 General Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to complete training to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in a nursing facility or assisted living facility.
  • One (1) Activity Director Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to complete the Activity Director Training Home Course offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center.
  • One (1) Social Service Designee Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Social Service Designee Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center.
  • One (1) Assisted Living Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Assisted Living Administrator Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center and become an administrator or manager in assisted living.
  • One (1) $500 Nursing Home Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual who would like to become a Nursing Home Administrator.
