Scholarships

The Nebraska Health Care Foundation (NHCF) supports those continuing their education in long-term care by awarding a variety of scholarships each year. Funds for nursing scholarships are made available through Health Care Information Systems and The Vetter Foundation, in conjunction with NHCF. Dietary scholarship funds are made available through Sysco Lincoln, in partnership with NHCF. Congressional Briefing scholarship funds are made available through The Olson Group and Quality First Insurance, LLC, in partnership with NHCF.

Quarterly Medication Aide Scholarship Applications 
NHCF offers two (2) Medication Aide scholarships per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a medication aide in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. The scholarship application opens in January, April, July, and October. Scholarship recipients and non-recipients are notified at the end of March, June, September, and December.

Quarterly Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarship Applications 
NHCF offers three (3) Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarships per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a basic nursing assistant in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. The scholarship application opens in January, April, July, and October. Scholarship recipients and non-recipients are notified at the end of March, June, September, and December.

2021 Annual Scholarships
The application period for the 2021 Annual Scholarships is now closed.

  • Four (4) Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Scholarships are offered to individuals wishing to attend an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care seminar offered by the Nebraska Nursing Facility Association/Nebraska Assisted Living Association.
  • Four (4) NAHCA Conference Scholarships are offered to health care assistants interested in attending the National Association of Health Care Assistants Annual Conference which will be held virtually this year.
  • Four (4) $1,000 RN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become registered nurses and practice in the long-term care profession.
  • Four (4) $750 LPN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become licensed practical nurses and practice in the long-term care profession.
  • Four (4) $500 Dietary Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become involved in food service or dietary practice in the long-term health care profession.
  • Three (3) $500 Nurse Advancement Scholarships are offered to licensed RNs and/or LPNs who would like to complete training/certification testing to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in the long-term care profession.
  • Four (4) $250 General Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to complete training to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in a nursing facility or assisted living facility.
  • One (1) AHCA/NCAL Annual Convention Scholarship is offered to a long-term care professional interested in attending the AHCA/NCAL Annual Convention. Plans are for the convention to be held Oct. 10-13, 2021, at National Harbor, outside of Washington, DC.
  • One (1) Activity Director Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to complete the Activity Director Training Home Course offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center.
  • One (1) Social Service Designee Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Social Service Designee Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center.
  • One (1) Assisted Living Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Assisted Living Administrator Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center and become an administrator or manager in assisted living.
  • One (1) $500 Nursing Home Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual who would like to become a Nursing Home Administrator.
