Scholarships

The Nebraska Health Care Foundation (NHCF) awards a variety of long-term care scholarships each year. Funds for nursing scholarships are made available through Health Care Information Systems and The Vetter Foundation, in conjunction with NHCF. Dietary scholarship funds are made available through Sysco Lincoln, in partnership with NHCF. Congressional Briefing scholarship funds are made available through The Olson Group and Quality First Insurance, LLC, in partnership with NHCF.

Annual Scholarships

Recipients of the following scholarships are recognized at the annual NNFA/NALA/NAHHA/LPNAN Spring Convention in Kearney. Members will be notified when the 2020 application period begins and are encouraged to note appropriate deadlines.

  • Two (2) $1,250 Quality Summit Scholarships are offered to individuals wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Quality Summit, March 9-11, 2020, in Grapevine, Texas. Applications will be due Jan. 17, 2020. 
  • Four (4) $1,500 NAHCA Conference Scholarships are offered to health care assistants who wish to attend the National Association of Health Care Assistants Annual Conference. Applications will be due in March, 2020.
  • Four (4) $1,000 RN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become registered nurses and practice in the long-term care profession. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Four (4) $750 LPN Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become licensed practical nurses and practice in the long-term care profession. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Four (4) $500 Dietary Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to become involved in food service or dietary practice in the long-term health care profession. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Three (3) $500 Nurse Advancement Scholarships are offered to licensed RNs and/or LPNs who would like to complete training/certification testing to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in the long-term care profession. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Two (2) $1,500 Congressional Briefing Scholarships are offered to direct care staff individuals wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing, June 1-2, 2020, in Washington, D.C. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • One (1) $1,500 Congressional Briefing Scholarship is offered to NNFA/NALA Board members wishing to attend the AHCA/NCAL Congressional Briefing, June 1-2, 2020, in Washington, D.C. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Four (4) $250 General Scholarships are offered to individuals who would like to complete training to enhance their capabilities and practice their skills in a nursing facility or assisted living facility. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • One (1) Activity Director Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Activity Director Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • Four (4) Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Scholarships are offered to individuals wishing to attend one of two Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Training workshops offered by the Nebraska Nursing Facility Association/Nebraska Assisted Living Association. Applications will be due Feb. 1, 2020.
  • One (1) Social Service Designee Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Social Service Designee Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • One (1) Assisted Living Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual wishing to attend the Assisted Living Administrator Training offered by the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center and become an administrator or manager in assisted living. Applications will be due March, 2020.
  • One (1) $500 Nursing Home Administrator Scholarship is offered to an individual who would like to become a Nursing Home Administrator. Applications will be due March, 2020.

Quarterly Medication Aide Scholarship
NHCF offers two (2) Medication Aide Scholarships per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a medication aide in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. Fourth Quarter 2019 scholarship applications are due Dec. 1, 2019.

Quarterly Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarship
NHCF offers one (1) Basic Nursing Assistant Scholarship per quarter to assist qualified persons who wish to become a basic nursing assistant in a nursing facility and/or assisted living community. Fourth Quarter 2019 scholarship applications are due Dec. 1, 2019.
